  1. Enhancing collaboration between multidisciplinary stakeholders in the region to create economic prosperity and social cohesion in the Zanzibar region
  2. Organizing events, setting up collaboration initiatives and communicating about the strengths of the region.

  4. Positioning the Zanzibar Innovation Region as a great place to work, live, study and invest

Operational objectives

Enhancing collaboration between multidisciplinary stakeholders in the region to create economic properity and social cohesion in the Zanzibar region

  1. Enhancing collaboration between multidisciplinary stakeholders in the region to create economic prosperity and social cohesion in the Zanzibar region
  2. Create a network with at least 2-5 partners from each target group. 
  3. Facilitate the creation of at least 5 start-ups by the end of 2025.
  4. Of these start-ups, at least 3 are founded by young (<30) people.
  5. Enhance the digital knowledge of the Zanzibar population by organizing mini trainings for the local people.
  6. Enhance internet coverage in the nearby region of KIST.
  7. Create a financial plan for continuation after 2025. 

Organizing events, setting up collaboration initiatives and communicating about the strengths of the region.

    1. Organize at least 2 network events a year.
    2. Organize basic AI and IoT trainings in year 1
    3. Organize training on Rapid Prototyping, Design Thinking, Sustainability, Marketing, Project Management, Research and advanced Iot/AI as of year 2. 
    4. Create a website and a LinkedIn page to communicate about the project and the innovation hub.
    5. Train at least 8 scholars per year 

    Use advanced technology to solve customer needs in an innovative way.

    1. Deliver at least 5 viable proof of concepts that are innovative and sustainable.
    2. Deliver an analysis of the needs in the region to ensure that our innovations will meet the local customer’s needs (especially in health, water management, tourism…).
    3. Train local trainers in AI/IoT with the goal that they can deliver the trainings as of Year 3 
    4. Deliver an analysis of the existing innovation and incubator initiatives in the region.

      Positioning the Zanzibar Innovation Region as a great place to work, live, study and invest

      1. Create a marketing plan for 3 years on how to market the innovation hub.
      2. Create social media accounts for promotion and networking. 
      3. Have at least 8 Belgian students a year working in the innovation hub.
      4. Have at least 4 interns a year working in the innovation hub.
      5. Create a brochure to promote the innovation hub
